She was predeceased by: her parents, Author D. Bates and Webbie Janice Bates; and her siblings, Author "Junior" Bates (Janice), Danny Bates (Audrey), Donald Bates (Phoebe), Linda Sue Sweeny and Barbara Morea (Danny).
She is survived by: her husband Tommy Cockrell of Florence; her children, Tommy Joe Cockrell (Rachel) of Florence, Melissa Grantham of Brandon and Trisha McLean (Donald) of Florence; her siblings, Debra Polk (Jerry) of Florence and Harry Bates (Beverly) of Florence; and her friend Gina Boykin. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
