He was predeceased by: his father John Howard; his sister Alta McElwain; his siblings-in-law, Pete Gates and Linda Burks; and his nephew Barry Jones.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Burks McElwain; his children, Sarah Sansing (Josh) and Matt McElwain of Falkner; his siblings, Brenda Williams, John McElwain, James McElwain and Titus McElwain; and his grandchildren, Lillie, Hunter, Ellie Mac and Annie Faye.
