He was predeceased by: his parents, Owen Lawson and Dovie Lawson; and his sisters, Betty McClendon and Vera Mosley. He is survived by: his wife Helen Lawson; his children, Shirley Simpson, Mike Lawson (Sherrill), Randy Lawson (Susan), Ronnie Lawson (Patricia) and Robby Lawson (Kelly); and his grandsons, Tyler Lawson, Brett Lawson, Jason Mills, Ross Bankston, Justin Cooley, Jason Stringer, Ron Gavin and Nick Thornton. He is also survived by five children, 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
