He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Vennard Hale and Berta Mae Hale; and his wife Carolyn B. Hale. He is survived by: his sister Lucy H. Smith; his nephew Randy Smith of Staunton, Virginia.; his children, Alford L. Hale (Kristy) of Birmingham and Stephanie L. Hale of Ellisville; and his granddaughters, Katlyn Culpepper, Maggie Hale and Sydney Hale.
