He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Jean McElhenney Hammond; his parents, Johnny C. Hammond and Elizabeth Garvin Hammond; and his brothers, Evon Hammonds, J. C. Hammond and Sammy Hammond.

He is survived by: his sons, Ricky Hammond (Brittanie) of Vonore, TN and Clay Hammond (Nena) of Decatur; and his grandchildren, Wiley Hammond (Jennifer), Blake Posey and Kristina Robinson. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
