He is survived by: his children, Melinda Ross Hammons and John "Jabbo" Ross; his grandchildren, Emma Hammons, Kayson Ross, Hunter Mathis and Jackson Mathis; his sister Ernestine "Ernie" Cupit; his siblings-in-law, Marabeth Brooks and Wally Brooks; his nieces, Dana Mabry (Jason), Nikki Duncan and Kelly Lester (Matthew); his nephew Corey Brooks (Kari); and his pet Lucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks c/o Youth Programs.
