He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Will Green, Cora Russell Green, Charlie Mathis and Minnie Wilbanks Mathis; his parents, John Ottie and Lucille Green Mathis; his brother Arthur Mathis; his parents-in-law, Charles Brantley and Ruby Payne Holley; his brother-in-law Joe Morphis; and his son Benjamin Jacob Mathis.
He is survived by: his friend Olivia Lucinda Holley; his wife Olivia Holley Mathis; his children, John Luke and Andrea Paul of Booneville; his sisters, Minnie Nelson (Bill) and Onetter Morphis; his siblings-in-law, Louise Meeks Mathis, Marilyn Holley Narowetz (Louis), Morris Holley (Linda), Marvin Holley (Linda), Craig Holley and Roger Holley (Lynn); and also, Mark Paul and Misty of New Albany. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He loved his church, County Line Baptist Church, Walnut, MS, where he served on various committees, was a part of the men's brotherhood, and worked to help receive donations for the Alcorn Baptist Bread of Life Food Bank Johnny was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Will and Cora Russell Green, paternal grandparents Charlie and Minnie Wilbanks Mathis, his parents John Ottie and Lucille Green Mathis, his brother Arthur Mathis, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles Brantley and Ruby Payne Holley, his brother-in-law Joe Morphis, and his infant son Benjamin Jacob Mathis.
