He was predeceased by: his father Coy Yates; his wife Sarah Harville Yates; and his siblings, Jimmy Dale Yates, Flora Stokes (Harvey), Willmetta Sykes (J. B.), Pauline Smith (Colonial) and Geraldine Trantham (Leon).
He is survived by: his daughters, Judy Hogland (Larry) and Cathy Yates; his grandchildren, Kurt Shumaker, Jill Wallace (Justin) and Jon Shumaker (Juliana); and his great grandchildren, Mac Shumaker, Mia Shumaker, Camden Shumaker, Carter Shumaker and Audrey Wallace.
