He was predeceased by: his parents, John Strong Bowen and Irene Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Williams Johnson; his children, Dr. Mathew B. Johnson, Jr. (Dena) and Leigh Gardecki; his brother Lyle Johnson; and his grandchildren, Madeleine Gardecki, Hannah Johnson, Molly Johnson, Patrick Gardecki, Mary Morgan Gardecki and Cora Johnson.
