Betty left this world on April 23, 2025 at the age of 87, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, Emmett O. Gilmore and Clara Mae Hall Gilmore; her husband Bobby Merchant; and her siblings, Gladys Gray, Helen Gill, Virginia Patrick, Linda Brack, James, Johnnie and Leon Gilmore.
She is survived by: her children, Carol Ritter (Jim) of Vernon, AL and Greg Merchant (Lashearer) of Columbus, MS; her siblings, Biddie Cantrell of Denton, TX, Mary Ann Stamp (Danny) of Vernon, AL, Bud Gilmore (Debbie) of Lake, TX, Bobby Gilmore (Teresa) and Dale Gilmore (Brenda) of San Antonio; and her grandchildren, Brandy Newell, Rae Ann Ingram, Alicia Wheeler, Hunter Sims, Jamie Merchant, Brailey Reed, Jason Ritter and Courtney Pennignton. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, April 27th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory (716 2nd Ave N, Columbus, MS 39701). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel (716 2nd Ave N, Columbus, MS 39701). A burial was held on Monday, April 28th 2025 at the Wofford Cemetery.
