Thomas C. Jones Obituary

June 1, 1968 - November 27, 2018 Thomas C. "Tommy" Jones, age 50, of Columbia, Mississippi and formerly of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away on November 27, 2018 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Tom was born on June 1, 1968 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the son of Gary L. and Diana L. (VanSkike) Jones.

Tom was raised in Monmouth where he attended Monmouth public schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in the class of 1987. He then attended Carl Sandburg College and later the Johnson County Community College. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, serving during Operation Desert Storm. He married Michelle Leigh Smith on May 25, 2002 in Abingdon, Illinois and she is surviving.

Tom has been employed as a pipe fitter for Local 619 of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He enjoyed bowling, throwing darts, and playing softball. Tom also loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. Tom was a member of the Marine Corp League of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Surviving Tom are his parents, wife Michelle Jones of Columbia, MS, one daughter, Taelor (Timothy) Jenney of Raymond, IL, two sons, Max A. Jones and Carsten A. Jones both of Columbia, MS, one sister, Tiffany (Danny) Osborn, two brothers, Robert (Michelle) Jones and Casey (Krystal) Jones.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Military Honors will be given at the funeral home. Cremation is being accorded in Mississippi and a private family committal will be held.

A memorial fund is being established for the Marine Corp League in Hattiesburg, MS.
