He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Powell Smith; his parents, Kirby Smith and Nettie Case Hamilton; his children, Jacquel Smith and James Earl Smith; and his brothers, James Smith, George Smith and Burley Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Rosemary Robbins (Raymond), Katherine Beach (Rodger), Patsy Sanders (Randy), Linda Sanders (Willie) and Nettie Sones (Luke); his daughter-in-law Charlotte Smith; and his siblings, Lloyd Smith (Nelda) and Rosie Mae Laird.
