He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Marjorie McWhirter; his children, Kobi McWhirter, Michael L. McWhirter, Jr. and Nikolas McWhirter; his grandsons, Parker Lee McWhirter, Noah Reed McWhirter, Kasey Reed McWhirter and Bradley Reed McWhirter; and his sisters, Barbara Shelton and Anita Brooks. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
