He was loved and cherished by many people including: his grandchild Tigers; his wife Charlotte; his children, Ashley Trice (Nathan), Mara Petersen (Karl), Chandler Oswalt (Ragan) and Calen Brantley (Will); his grandchildren, Allie, Henry, Duncan, Tristan, Owen Trice, Rankin Petersen Hunter (Harrison), Grant, Kate, Mary Addison, Luke Petersen, Walker, Will, Caroline, Knox, Charlotte Reese, Mary Mills Oswalt, Sadie Macon, Collier, Hardin and Waverly Brantley; his siblings, Lynn Oswalt (Jan), Lewis Oswalt (Lisa), Lori Hamel (Don) and Marilyn; his brother-in-law Francis Thompson; his parents, Macon Oswalt and Lois Oswalt; and also, Lamar and Mary Bryant. He was also cherished by friends, and with two children.

To honor his lifelong passion for Christian education, donations will be divided among the four Christian schools of his grandchildren, Greyfriars Classical Academy (Matthews, NC), Evangel Classical Christian School (Alabaster, AL), Mt. Salus Christian School (Clinton, MS), and St. Augustine School (Ridgeland, MS).
