He was predeceased by: his parents, Hershell Spires and Hazel Spires Carter; his siblings, Hugh Spires and Joyce Spires Byars; and his nephew Darrell Byars.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce; his children, Doug Spires (Stephanie) of Vicksburg, MS and Michelle White (Jody) of Pearl, MS; his grandchildren, Abby, Sarah Katherine, Belle (Spires) and Richard (Sullivan); and his sister Linda Hill (Lloyd). He is also survived by met more lifelong friends.
