He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Erle Smith, Jr. and Frances Virginia Smith of Edgemar Plantation; and his siblings, Jasper Franklin Smith and Francis Smith Burnham. He is survived by: his close friend Julia Hall; his children, Edgar E. Smith IV, Kathryn B. Smith and Parker Drake "Duk" Lofton (Carley); his goddaughter Emily Howard; and his grandchildren, Aubrey and Saydee. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

There will be a private memorial for family at a later date, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Pets For Vets.
