He was predeceased by: his wife Claudette Cox Shearer; his son Douglas Wasson Shearer, Jr.; and his brother Leighton Shearer. He is survived by: his parents, William Shearer and Beatrice Brown Shearer; his daughter-in-law Carolyn Murphy Shearer; his grandsons, Tom Shearer and Bing Shearer of California; and his brothers, Donald Shearer, Kenneth Shearer and Robert B. Shearer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
