He is survived by: his wife Janet; his daughters, Sarah Bridges, Nancy Entrekin and Patsy Mitchell (Mark); and his grandchildren, Amanda Entrekin, Kelleigh Entrekin, Lexie Mitchell, Mark Mitchell and Blake Mitchell.
John's contributions to the space exploration vision were recognized by NASA in 2006, a highlight of his career culminating in witnessing the launch of Discovery Space Shuttle STS-121 with Janet.
