He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucille Ledbetter Smith-Vaniz and Joseph Watson Smith-Vaniz; and his brother Sam Palmer Smith-Vaniz. He is survived by: his wife Teresa Mcgee Smith-Vaniz; his children, Evan Smith-Vaniz and Lauren Smith-Vaniz Pezold (Matthew); his grandchildren, Gabriel Joseph and Salem Nesta; his siblings, Larry Smith-Vaniz (Jan) and JoAnn Smith-Vaniz Phillips (Gene); and his sister-in-law Bridget Smith-Vaniz. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and the best friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the JMS Burn Center in Augusta, GA or to the Children's Hospital.
