He was predeceased by: his parents, Furman Garner and Cora Bell McElhenney Garner; and his sons, Gary Garner and David Garner. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Kemp Garner of Caledonia; and his children, Ricky Garner and Rita Jackson (Randal). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rowan Cemetery Fund and Border Springs Baptist Church.
