He was predeceased by: his son Charlie McCoy; his parents, Cooper Harrell McCoy and Mary McCoy; and his brother Chip McCoy. He is survived by: his wife Shirley McCoy; his son Jason McCoy (Johnie Monroe); his sisters, Cinda Newsom and Melanie Gowharie (Reza); and his granddaughters, Madison McCoy, Laura McCoy and Brittany McCoy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Semper Fi Foundation, or Emory Independent Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
