He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph William Gaines, Jr. and Gracie Mae Hudson. He is survived by: his wife Vera Catherine Simpson Gaines; his daughters, Dr. Heather Hardison (Andy) of Collierville and Tiffany Gaines of Olive Branch, Mississippi; his sisters, Brenda Chandler (John) of Spring Hill, Sharon Raper of Coahoma and Teresa Webster (Roland) of Sidon, Mississippi; and his siblings-in-law, Lou McQuary (Larry) of West Union and John Simpson (Cathy) of Pascagoula, Mississippi. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Oakland M. B. Church (18 Fairport Rd, Crawford, MS 39743). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
