He is survived by: his daughters, Sue Smith Howard (Doug) and Karen Smith Ruffin (Jeff); his grandchildren, Eddie Howard (Tara), Shannon Walters (Lee), Jessica Thames Cochran (Jamie) and Taylor Smith; and his sister Rosa Mae Whatley. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
