He was predeceased by: his father Donald Rea Newell; his stepfather Aubrey A. Cox; his grandparents, Garland Newell, Juanita Middleton, T. C. Owens and Ruth Rody Owens; and his brother-in-law Rae Oberschmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Christy Leggett Newell; his mother Catherine Owens Cox; his stepsons, Adam, Austin Brewer, Chad Smith and Taylor Kennedy; and his siblings, Marc A. Newell (Ava Jane), Steven Paul Newell, Sharon Holmes (Sam) and Kimberly J. Oberschmidt. He is also survived by his four step-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, and six great-nieces and nephews.
