She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Herman Pepper and Mamie Jane Ray Pepper; her sister Betty; her former husband Gerald Enochs Kees; her husband Gerry Kees; her daughter Jane; her son-in-law Todd Clary; her son Christopher; her daughter-in-law Lara Kees; and her grandchildren, August, Alex, Emma Clary, John and Mary Elizabeth Kees.

She graduated from Millsaps College with a degree in biology and was awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation to conduct research at University Medical Center.
