He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Arney and Viola Arney (Scarbrough); his wife Margaret Johnston Arney; his son Michael Arney; and his siblings, Mavis Allen (Frank), Shirley Hunt, Marvin Arney (Bobbie), Joe Arney and Claude Arney.

He is survived by: his children, Keith Masters (D'Arcy), Franklin Arney (Sandy) and Kathy Hayes (Ralph); his daughter-in-law Paula Sims; his siblings, Faye Pearson, Mary Fortenberry and Charles Arney (Shirley); his sister-in-law Sarah Arney; his grandchildren, Bryan Masters (Darla), Ken Masters, Rachel Masters, Thomas Arney (Melissa), Stephanie Arney, Jeremy Hayes (Christi) and Adam Hayes (Margaret); and his brothers-in-law, Felix Pearson and Herman Fortenberry. He is also survived by twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
