He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Nathan Akers and Margaret Louise Stella Akers; and his siblings, Charles R. "Rusty" Akers, Judith E. Hannah and Paula A. Gill.
He is survived by: his wife Mikako "Mika" Akers; his daughter Megan Akers Lawler (Michael); his grandchildren, Harlie Lawler of Brandon, MS and Elaina Lawler of Brandon, MS; and his siblings, Carol E. Crain (Garry) of Louisville, TN, Dorothy E. Brady (Mike) of Hazen, AR, Kathy Gray of Brandon, MS, Joyce M. Walker of Carlisle, AR, Elizabeth A. Harrison (David) of Water Valley, MS, Charles A. Manuel of Mendenhall, MS and Michael A. Akers (Anita) of Brandon, MS. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
