He was predeceased by: his parents, Olen Clyde and Mary Alice Beard; his brothers, Gerald Beard, Olen Duane Beard and Dale Beard; and his siblings-in-law, Becky Beard and Olen Ray Huddleston.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Beard; his children, Greg Beard (Miriam), Ricky Beard (Martha) and Kim Smitherman (Stan); his siblings, J. T. Beard (Linda), Darrell Lee Beard (Debbie), Joyce Duncan (Johnny) and Sharon Kay Jackson; his grandchildren, John Fielding Smitherman, Kiri Lee Parson, Mollie Ruth Cornelius, Hannah Grace Beard, Everley Brooke Bumpas, Lauren Elizabeth Beard and Emily Nicole Beard; and his great grandchildren, Ross Parson, Hayes Parson, John Henry Cornelius, Ruth Ann Cornelius, Nathan Smitherman and Tucker Smitherman.
