She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph Tennison and Letra Tennison; and her former husband Minor Swinney. She is survived by: her husband Leonard South; her children, Richie Swinney (Linda) and Rhonda Wilson (Wade); and her sister Quay Johnson. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church for missions, P.O. Box 100, Marietta, MS 38856.
