He was predeceased by: his parents, Phillips Daniel Patterson and Linda Collums Patterson; and his grandparents, Toy Clay, Lela Collums, Helen Tedford and Benjamin F. Patterson.

He is survived by: his wife Lena Murphree Patterson of Blue Springs; his children, Michelle Tate (James) of Huntsville, AL and Michael Dan Patterson, Jr.; his grandchildren, James Ryan Tate, Carson Reed Tate, Cohen Quinn Tate and Bryson Dan Patterson; and his sisters, Carolyn Knight (Bill) of Marks, Susan Bell (Mark) of Coldwater and Christy Billingsley (Scooter) of Clarksdale. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
