He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Berndt Sr. and Martha Helen Gates Berndt; and his brother Max Whitehead. He is survived by: his wife Kimberly Bruntz-Berndt; his children, Mandy, Jennifer Tibbetts (Jason) and James Spiers (Virginia); his siblings, MaryAnn Sneed, Tom Bernett (Mary Lou) and David Berndt; and his grandchildren, Madison, Kaeden, Aunika, Shelby, Blakley, Keegan and Caleb. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“I was so sad to hear of Gary’s passing. We were good friends growing up in LaPorte, Indiana where we attended church and school together. I remember he excelled in Violin, was enamored with Drum and Bugle Corp, and was Quarterback of the 10th Street Trojans, our grade school. Gary and his brother David often came to our house to play 2-on-2 football in our backyard with my brother Mark and me. We sometimes studied together. The entire Bruner family sends their love and prayers. Wesley Bruner”
