She was predeceased by: her parents, James Nathaniel and Bertha Mahala Byrd Sowell; her husband Louis Buras Jr.; her siblings, Jenny New (Chris), Mable Smith (Stance), Myra Sowell, Sue Cain (Wayne), Hubert Sowell (Vecie), J. N. Sowell (Louise), Eddie Sowell (Mamie Ruth) and Shorty Sowell (Margaret); and her great grandchild Dimitri Clinton.
She is survived by: her children, Florence Porter (Randy) of Richland, MS and Louis Buras III (Peggy) of Spring, TX; and her grandchildren, Michelle Clinton, Jessica Secrest (Jeremy), Rodney Porter, Joshua Buras (Meredith), Korrie Henson (Brian), Brian Boudreaux (Malissa) and Kevin Boudreaux (Melissa). She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and other family members.
