He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Franklin Sylvester and Ethelean Lott Slyvester; his son Gavin Sylvester; and his siblings, Arnold, J. C., A. F. Sylvester, Jr. and Willa Dean Sylvester.

He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Sylvester of Beaumont; his children, Jeff Sylvester of Beaumont, Judy Kittrell of Beaumont, Nathan Sylvester of Beaumont and Melanie Bynum of Beaumont; his grandchildren, Telecia Welborn, Cody Lott, Jaime Benton, Amanda Brunet, Anna Klaire Sylvester and Jonathan Sylvester; and his sister Ouida Brownlee. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
