He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Alan H. Stenning and Faith Stenning. He is survived by: his pets, Ben and Charcoal; his brother Blake (Suzanne); and his niece Gabby.

“I am so sorry to learn of Ian's passing. I have known him since 1974. In my mind I can still see him, and hear his voice. I don't think I ever met somebody that "calls things like he sees it" more than how Ian did that. Flamboyant, funny, quick to tease, with a voice that really carried. Even before we got there, he was so proud to be an engineer. I often joked that Ian's strong coffee got me through thermo class. We did all nighters Tuesday so we could complete our homework due Wednesda”
