He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lewis Campbell and Minnie Jewel Ford Campbell; his son James David Campbell, Jr.; and also Bobby Lewis Campbell. He is survived by: his wife Cathy Shoemaker Campbell of Coffeeville, MS; his children, Nikki Williams (Tripp) of Batesville, MS, Kaitlyn Simmons (Josh), Ashley Collins (Kevin) of Southaven, MS and Matthew Campbell of Nesbit, MS; his sister Dianne Campbell Scott (Walter) of Independence, MS; and his grandchildren, Dylan Campbell, Peyton Collins, Lexi Collins, Layken Williams, Josie Williams and Levi Simmons.
