He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Lois Helmes and Jewel Etoyle White; his wife Dora; and his siblings, Margaret "Bit" Sides, Ginger Helmes Gray, Teresa "Sissy" Moore, Kyle Helmes and Tony Helmes.

He is survived by: his sons, Terry Helmes (Melissa) of Courtland and Billy "Buster" Helmes, Jr. of Batesville; his siblings, Dorothy Nell Roberson of New Albany, Bobby Helmes of Batesville and Jimmy Dale Helmes of Pope; his grandchildren, Brandon Helmes and Brittany Helmes Kyle; and his great grandchild Killian Kyle.
