We are sad to announce that on September 7, 2024, at the age of 97, Elsie Modean Cates in Ashland, Mississippi passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Though Elsie Modean may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Elsie Modean touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Otis Earl and Berchie Lavader Hicks (Knott); and her husband William Paul Cates. She is survived by: her children, Christian, Paula Avent, Patsy Littleton (Kenny) and Sheila Wilkes; and her sisters, Eva Jean Walker and Eulene Stewart. She is also survived by her family grow, celebrating seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
