He was predeceased by: his parents, John Carman and Lady Mabel Carman (Hopkins); his son James Ellis Carman Jr.; and his siblings, John Carman, George Carman, Thomas Carman, Clifford Carman, Franklin Carman, Keith Carman, David Carman, Paul Carman, Rosetta McKim and Janet Carman.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Carman; his daughters, Lisa Carman of Springfield and Lori Carman Baker of Wheatland; his grandchildren, Brett Baker, Samuel Wiles, Madison Wiles, Tyler Baker, Macala Crouch and Colton Crouch; his great grandchildren, Alton, Tymber, Benton, Claire, Ellie, Elena, Mason and Hudson; and his siblings, Charles Carman of Unionville, Lelia Bates of Albia, Kathy Thompson (Darrrell) of Albia, Joan Nordstrum of St. Joseph and Ann Shore (Keith) of St. Joseph. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
