He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde W. Akins and Ruth Akins (Giddens); his wife Daun Akins; and his siblings, Patricia Thurman and Ted Akins.
He is survived by: his sons, Donnie Akins of Lee's Summit and Shannon Akins (Josinne Gustin); his sisters, Bonnie Riffle of LaTour and B. K. Wurdeman of Cole Camp, Missouri; and his former wife Phyllis Spencer. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
