He was predeceased by: his parents, Bedford Forest Whisnant (B. W.) and Tessie Hargis Whisnant; and his brother-in-law Mearle Terry. He is survived by: his children, Charles Whisnant (Jennie), Tracey Whisnant (Tracy) and Audrey Whisnant (Morin); his grandchildren, Alan (Allison), Randy (Emily), Jesse (Jordan), Charley, Jered and Michelle; his great grandchild Lowell "Buzz" Stuart; his close friend Danny Judd; his children, Frankie Jo Whisnant and Gregory Dean Whisnant; and his daughter-in-law Terry Whisnant. He is also survived by ten great-great-grandchildren; two sisters.
