He was predeceased by: his wife Winona Marie Matthews; his parents, Frank D. Matthews Sr. and Lonnye Matthews; and his brother Frank D. Matthews, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Claude Matthews, Jr. (Kathleen) of Des Peres, Kevin Matthews (Theresa) of Chesterfield, Missouri, Lonnye Clarke (Martin) of Tucson and Sharon Cornwall (Stuart) of Dallas, Texas; his grandchildren, Blake Matthews, Tony Molina, Nikki Molina, Charles Matthews, Jr., Susan Jamieson, Laura Walker, Jack Matthews, Katy Cornwall, Matthew Cornwall, Claudia Matthews and Olivia Matthews; and his great grandchildren, Ellie Matthews, Jack Matthews, Luca Molina, Enzo Molina, Rose Hill, George Hill, Charles Hill, Rita Hill, Campbell Matthews, Charles Matthews, Ill, Joseph Jamieson, Colette Jamieson, Clara Jamieson and Henry Walker.
