He was predeceased by: his spouse Myra Mertz; and his siblings, Kenny Mertz and Kurt Mertz. He is survived by: his children, Kim Siefert (Denis), Vicki Mertz and Kelly Mertz (Maleana); his grandchildren, Patrick Hartman and Amiee Mertz (Robert Gorges); and his siblings, Mildred Sis Weber and Stanley Mertz (Cathy). He is also survived by uncle, cousin and friend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens or Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary.
