Amy Mackowiak Obituary
Amy was born and grew up within a large, loving family in Alton, Illinois, where she attended St. Mary's Grade School and Marquette High School. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with an accounting degree, she worked at Arthur Young and Company and met her husband, Tom. When she became a Mom she also became a full-time homemaker, a vocation she revered. After a short stint in Pittsburgh, Amy and Tom settled in Glendale, where they have lived for the past 31 years.
More than anything, Amy drew on her Catholic faith, devotion to Mary, and strong belief in family values to guide her way of life. Her many passions included her family and home, (her 'happy place'), backyard 'farm' (especially in summer), cooking (you knew it was always going to be good and usually 'over the top'), her many projects (each ingeniously creative), her pets (avid dog walker), and the list could go on and on. She was humble, industrious, ever-dependable, vibrant, down-to-earth, witty, strongly convicted, and the ultimate servant who was very loving and so loved. She was a rock and a force of nature and wouldn't be very thrilled that we wrote all this stuff about her for everyone to read. Those who knew her well realize this summary is not adequate, but hopefully still captures her essence and honors her.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; children Peter, Grace (Steve) Hoerr, Mitch, and Jane; grandchildren Frances, Tommy and Chiara Hoerr; siblings David (Sarah) Wuellner, Ellen (Liam) Moran, Matt (Mimi) Wuellner, Andy Wuellner, and Kate (Paul) Dalziel; sister-in-law Bonnie (Paul) Arman; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Amy is preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Mickey Wuellner, her brothers, Jeff and Peter, sister-in-law Shelley, and newborn son, Thomas.
A mass celebrating her life will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 676 W. Lockwood Avenue, Webster Groves, MO on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11AM, with family and friends welcome to gather at 10AM in the church.
