He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Vernon and Marie Vernon (Williams); his stepfather Dell Peich; his in-laws, Max and Berniece Cook; his nephew Rex Vernon; and his great grandchild Brooks Miller.
He is survived by: his spouse Rae Anne Cook; his children, Julie Hilliard of Weaubleau, Jody Vernon of Springfield and Jennifer Smith (Cory) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Brennan Miller (Callie) of Rockwall, Tavia Brewer (Dillyon) of Marshfield, Tucker Hilliard (Makayla) of Hannibal, Mara Hilliard of Weaubleau, Eli Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Stella Brewer; his siblings, Beth Taylor of Florissant, Missouri, Jerry (Martha) and John (Sharon) of Eldon, Missouri; and also, Whitney, Baylor and Brooks Miller. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Weaubleau First Baptist Church (11380 Fugate St, Weaubleau, MO 65774). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Joel's memory to the Weaubleau First Baptist Church Expansion Fund.
