Margaret Longseth Obituary
Margaret Ann "Margie" Longseth (nee' Pearson) was born November 5, 1942 in Washington, MO to A. Roy and Eugenia (nee' Ming) Pearson. She passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 in Washington, MO at the age of 81 years.
Margie grew up in Washington, MO and graduated from Washington High School in 1960. She continued her education at William Woods College in 1962 and completed a Bachelor of Education at University of Missouri-Columbia in 1964. Margie began her career teaching special education for the School District of Washington in 1970 until 1981. In 1985 she accepted a teaching position with the Union RXI School District until she retired in 2001. Her retirement was only brief because Margie returned to the classroom at Washington High School a few months later stating she was bored and missed helping kids. After 47 years of dedicated service to her countless students, Margie retired a second time in 2020.
Margie dedicated her life to her children and teaching her students. She will be fondly remembered for her stories and thoughtful gifts that she shared with her friends and colleagues. She loved spending time with her family and showering them with gifts as well. Outside of the classroom, she was an avid reader and loved to talk about history and politics. She also enjoyed taking weekly trips to St. Louis. Margie was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A. Roy and Eugenia Pearson; one granddaughter, Cyndy Caldwell; and special niece, Michel Otten.
Margie is survived by three children: Nancy Mitchell and husband Brad of Washington, Ethan Longseth and wife Dawn of Washington, and Ellen Stillman; seven grandchildren: Kelsey Scheer (Nathan), Kersten Porter (Shane), Kamryn Mitchell (Jack Politte), Christian Longseth, Jordan Massimino, and Jayde Roettgers (Liam McCormick), and Amy Stillman; six great-grandchildren: Hannah, Luke, and William Scheer, Nolan Porter, J.J. Politte, and Liam Massimino; one sister, Laura Sue Otten of Beaufort, MO; along with niece Elizabeth Otten and nephews, Andy and Jeff Otten, plus relatives and friends, and countless kids that she taught in her 47 year career.
Per her request, funeral services were held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WINGS Educational Foundation or Franklin County Humane Society.
