He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Schmitt and Anna; and his siblings, Victor Schmitt, Richard Schmitt, Mildred Schmitt, Irene Bierman and Alice Elbert.
He is survived by: his former wife Marceline Uhrmann; his wife Tudy Schmitt of Washington; his children, Steven Schmitt (Melanie) of Laramie and Anne Cochran (John) of St. Louis; his brother Virgil Schmitt of Washington; his grandchildren, Emily Schmitt Shimkus (Kevin), Taylor Reda (Nick) and Alec Cochran (Dani); and his great grandchild Luke Shimkus. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorial donations can be given to the St. Francis Borgia Regional High School.
