He was predeceased by: his parents, Adele Murray and Joe Francis Murray; his brothers, John and Walter Murray; his parents-in-law, Jeanette Haddock and R. C. McElmurry; and his siblings-in-law, Marjorie Murray, Deborah Jones, R. C. McElmurry, Jr., Michael McElmurry and Phillip McElmurry.

He is survived by: his wife Judy McElmurry; his stepchild Lynn Tolliver (Steve); his daughter Terri Landing (Steve); his grandchildren, James C. Murray (Alexandra), Holly Moore (Charles), Andrew Davis (Shannon), Melissa Humphreys (Anthony), Staci Jo Gallegos (Wes), Katie Coen (Josiah), James Murray, II and Dominique Murray; his great grandchildren, Ethan, Vada, Madelyn, Lucy, Tyler, Amelia, Jordan, Jonathan, Alexus Jo, Daphne, Chloe, Linus, Max, Finnlee, Clementine, Noah and Zander; his sister Mary Nell Hay; his siblings-in-law, Pattie Fennell (Rick), Ronnie McElmurry (Emily) and Robbie McElmurry; and his mother-in-law Jane McElmurry. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the bus ministries of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Clair, Harvest Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Mission Dignity, a ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention to retired ministers and their wives.
