He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Emmett Smtih and Vivian Pluma Smith; his grandson Scott Pelton; and his siblings, Jerry Smith, Ruth Dotts and Joann Allen.

He is survived by: his former wife Faye Darlene Magill; his wife Darlene Smith of St. Clair, MO; his daughters, Tracy Koelling (Landon) of St. Clair and Pamela McCutchen (Kevin) of St. Clair; his grandchildren, Victoria Pelton Rost (Jeremiah) of St. Clair, Kinsley Koelling of St. Clair, Lawson of St. Clair, Dawson of St. Clair, Emily McCutchen of St. Clair and Ashley Pelton of Nashville, TN; and his sisters, Sharon Hagan (Bill) of Buffalo, MO and Sandy Shay (John) of Independence, MO. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
