He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Schmitt and Frances Schmitt; his wife Madonna Schmitt; his daughter Pam Schmitt-Jackson; and his brothers, Glennon Schmitt and James Schmitt.
He is survived by: his sons, Don Schmitt Jr. (Jane) of St. Clair, MO and Jeff Schmitt (Debbie) of Washington, MO; his siblings, Dennis Schmitt (Doris) of Washington, MO and Rosemary Dieckhaus of St. Albans, MO; his granddaughter Tiffany Grotewiel (Brian) of Union, MO; and his great grandchildren, Hayden and Hannah. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Legion Post #297.
