He was predeceased by: his parents, George Stapleton and Ida Mae Stapleton (Hughs); his wife JoAnn L. Shelton; his son Steven R. Stapleton; and his siblings, Robert Stapleton, Rosetta, Doris, Betty Jean and Tina.
He is survived by: his children, Lawrence R. Stapleton of Vandalia and Cindy L. Harris (Dominic) of Florissant; his brothers, Melvin Stapleton (Emma) of Columbia and Leo Stapleton of Columbia; his grandchildren, Jennifer Desai (Spencer) of Wildwood, James Harris of Florissant and Gabriel Harris of Florissant; his great grandchildren, Estevan Lee of Wildwood and Brianne Lee of Wildwood; and his daughter-in-law Beverly Stapleton of Vandalia. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
